ELIZABETH LOCKE
Elizabeth Locke is another powerful female designer. She has been everywhere and done it all. Being a jewelry designer is just one of her many facets and careers.
Her work is really lovely. She takes the stuffy cameo theme and attaches vibrance of color and the mystery of the Mediterranean to it. She also works with 19K Gold.
She will have a main and center piece, usually made out of venetian glass, intaglio, an ancient coin, antique carnelian, micro-mosaics, or sardonyx. These are usually carved much like a cameo. This is then encased in a simple band of gold, and surrounded by precious gems and pearls in symmetrical groups of four and eight.
She usually pairs her more complicated pieces with vibrant cabochon stones set into simple gold. Her jewelry is meant to be worn in a group, and she designs it that way, pairing the simple with the complex.
She is one of few designers who carves her centerpieces, and she does an amazing job of it. Her work has appeared in Vogue, New York Times, and InStyle to name a few.
